Based on the play by Dennis McIntyre and adapted for the screen by Jerzy and Mary Chromolowski, The film will tell the story of a painter and sculptor in 1916 Paris. “The saga of Mr. Modigliani’s life is one that I am incredibly honored and truly humbled to bring to the screen,” said Depp, who is producing for IN.2, the European arm of his production company Infinitum Nihil. “It was a life of hardship, but triumph in the end – a universal human story that all audiences can identify with.”
Modigliani It marks another European project for Depp as he distances himself from his recent and serious defamation lawsuit against ex-wife Amber Heard. He is also playing the role of King Louis XV in French director Maven’s historical love story Jeanne du Barrywhich began shooting in late July and is Depp’s first feature in three years.
The film also marks the next collaboration between Pacino and Navidi, who have previously worked together on features including this one. Merchant of Venice (2004), Wild Salome (2011) and salome (2013). Both IN.2 and Depp produce side by side.
“This project is very close to Al’s heart. Al introduced me to the play Modigliani years ago and I fell in love with it immediately,” Navidi said. “This is a slice of Modi’s life and not a bio. It has been my dream to work with Johnny again – he is a true artist with a great vision to bring this great story to the screen.”
Although he is best known for his on-screen roles, Depp has produced 10 films, including 2011’s Hugo And, most recently, 2020 Gold’s Crock: A few rounds with Shane McGowan.
