MOSCOW (APP) – Russia’s Defense Ministry warned Britain on Tuesday against a planned spy plane flight over Russian territory, saying the country’s air force had been ordered to prevent interference.
The tough statement comes amid tensions between Russia and the West over Moscow’s actions in Ukraine.
The ministry said Britain had sent a notice about the flight of an RC-135 spy plane that partially passed over Russian territory.
“We consider this action to be a deliberate provocation,” the ministry said, adding that the Russian Air Force was “tasked to prevent violations of the Russian border.”
“All possible consequences of this deliberate provocation will lie squarely with the British side,” the ministry said in a statement, without specifying when or where the British flight was planned.
On Monday, the ministry said a Russian fighter jet scrambled to intercept a British RC-135 spy plane that crossed the Russian border near Sviatoi Nos Cape between the Barents and White Seas. The ministry said a MiG-31 fighter forcefully ejected the intruder.
